Haiti

My friends Sam and Ashley are adopting a little girl from Haiti. Sammy is in Haiti now trying to get Bebe and bring her home, and they are blogging his trip. I just loved this part that Ashley wrote:

“As they were driving today, he said it was like a ghost town on their way through  the city. There was no one in the market, there was no one in the streets. There were no people anywhere and then all the sudden they got to this area where there were thousands of people in the streets.

Sam said he started to get a little scared because he thought there was a riot…

Today marks exactly 1 month after the earthquake. Pastor Joel was telling Sam that the entire country is fasting and praying from 6am-12pm for the next 3 days. They are doing this to thank God that they are alive, and to pray for the country. He said it was just an amazing sight. There was a church on the corner, and the people crowding the streets were the overflow from the church. People were singing and praising God…Pastor Joel had to turn their vehicle around because they couldn’t get though.

Sam compared the amount of people to 5 Ohio State football games letting out at the same time. He said that was just one area where this service was. They are happening all through Haiti. He said that people are turning to Jesus in this time, and even the people who practice voodoo and witchcraft are fasting and praying to Jesus, and involved in these services. He said it was sad and bad to see the devastation, he couldn’t even describe it to me, but he was amazed at the response of the people. He obviously had never seen anything like that before.
So God is using this tragedy to unite the people of Haiti, and bring them to Him. Life is going on in Haiti!”

I love that that is their reaction to everything that has been happening! And that even those who practice voodoo are praying to Jesus. So encouraging. I just can’t wait to get back there!
